NYS Sheep & Wool Festival - Workshop Registration

Stacey Backenroth

Stacey Backenroth is a fiber artist, photographer and educator. Receiving her B.A in Art and Art History from Brooklyn College, Stacey received training in traditional mediums associated with the visual arts.

It wasn’t until a trip to England where she was researching and photographing military architecture (Ancient Stone Circles, Roman Forts and Anglo-Saxon and Norman Castles) that she stumble across sheep and the fiber arts.   Herdwicks, Texels and Swaledales became her only companions on her day long hikes across farms lands, national parks and up into the fells (Norse for Mountain) of Cumbria. Needless to say, it was love at first baaah and she started to explore the world of sheep and the fiber arts. She’s worked with sheep herding dogs, on English sheep farms and studied fiber arts in England.

In addition to having her own studio, BrackenBeck Studios (Norse for Fern River) Stacey is a farm, wool and fiber arts educator at Stony Kill Farms Education Center located in Wappingers Falls, NY. She teaches various workshops including Sheep and Wool 101, wool washing, natural dying and various fiber art techniques, such as needle felting, wet felting, Nuno felting, art yarn spinning, peg looming, multi-technique and multi-medium approaches. She’s always looking for exciting new ways to work with wool, exploring and experimenting with this sustainable, fascinating medium.
